October's Monthly Poems

Each month we celebrate a new theme.  Our Monthly Poem is created around our weekly word lists that month. W e integrate fall into our math, language and art lessons.  Fall is a fun time to learn because we include nature in so many of our activities.

Grade One Poem

Autumn Changes Poem

Orange, yellow and red,

Leaves fall down and make a bed.

Rake them into a great big pile,

Play and jump in them for a while.

Longer nights and cooler days,

Winter is coming, it is on the way.

Time to wear our winter jackets,

Put away our tennis rackets.

Animals storing food away,

Making dens for a winter day.

Fall is upon us and winter is near,

Winds are blowing can you hear?

Grade Two Poem

Autumn’s Here, Winter’s Coming

Autumn is the time of year when changes are all around,

Leaves change colours, fall from trees and land on the ground.

We like to rake them into piles and jump in them for fun,

Autumn’s cooler and shorter days tell us summer time is done.

Farmers harvest the last of their crops, winter is coming soon,

If you listen carefully, you can hear the final call of the loon.

Many animals are finding dens to hibernate through the cold,

Others have begun to migrate south, in flocks of young and old.

Autumn is such a beautiful season with the colours that it brings,

I’ll have to fill my birdfeeder up for those creatures with wings.

Fall is here, but winter is coming, the cold winds tell us so,

It’s time to dress ourselves up warm from our heads to our toes.
